Mercedes-Benz SLK 200 Kompressor 2LOOK

  • This is a special edition of Mercedes-Benz's beautiful two seater SLK sports car called '2LOOK'. And it certainly is good to look at.

Aggressively styled like a low-slung racing car, it features an unusually large Mercedes three pointed star on the front grille — for badge snobs.

The exterior is 'mystic white', complemented by an AMG Anthracite leather interior, with two-tone nappa leather sports seats and contrasting top

  • It's also safe and comes with dual stage and side airbags for driver and front-seat passenger. It handles well on the road and grips the corners.
  • The height-adjustable steering wheel features user-friendly ergonomic controls to change CD tracks or radio stations.
  • Decent visibility, even with the roof in place.
  • It's cosy. A clever system called 'Airscarf' blows warm air around your neck, perfect for those, like me, who forget their Hermes scarf.
  • When the sun comes out, you can transform your metal roofed coupe into a roadster in 22 seconds.
  • Nice sound as a result of the high-revving engine, but it hums politely at speed.
  • Performance is pleasing from the supercharged 1.8 litre engine, with six-speed manual gearbox and speedtronic cruise control.

Acceleration is a nifty 0 to 62mph in 7.6 seconds with a top speed of 147mph. Yet CO2 emissions are reasonable at 188g/km.

Average fuel consumption is 35.8mpg, rising to 47mpg when cruising, but a less frugal 25mpg around town.

  • Impresses the neighbours. It thrilled mine and I soon became the weekend chauffeur.
  • Enough boot space for a weekend bag and a generous haul of shopping.
  • Basic price of £32,118 includes a host of standard features such as anti-lock ABS brakes, electronic stability program (ESP), anti-skid Acceleration Skid Control, electric windows and Bluetooth.
  • For parents who might want to ferry a child, there's an automatic child seat recognition sensor, which works in conjunction with Mercedes-Benz child seats fitted with an electronic transponder.
